Reflecting and anticipating
After an intense experience such as a futuring exercise, we find it good practice to take time to reflect on what happened and think about how to consolidate what has been learned in our life and work. Unsurprisingly, there are many techniques that can be used to structure reflection. In this context, we look at feedback and evaluation techniques that can assist in distilling the key insights from a participatory futuring process and finding ways to integrate the lessons. This can include simple spotting of (weak) signals, changing specific conditions or behaviours, and even significant lifestyle changes.
- Simple evaluation (what worked, what didn't, what did you learn, what next?)
- Adaptive action cycle (what?, so what?, then what?)
- Real life prototyping (designing experiments in visionary adaptation)
- User research
- Solo reflection
